The Mock Trial, which takes place next Friday, will be the highlight of the X Week of Solicitors, an initiative that started yesterday at the Escola Superior de Gestão (ESG) of the Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (IPCA).
In an organization of the ESG Law Department, throughout the week IPCA’s undergraduate and master’s degree students in Solicitors will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of events that will take place both during the day and after work.
“We are very proud to hold this Solicitors Week. It is an event that gives us a lot of work because it has many initiatives, not only in the area of Solicitors itself, but also in other areas in which our students have shown interest”, said Iva Faria, who with Carlos Loureiro assumes the direction of the degree in Solicitors .
Iva Faria states that students were consulted to understand the topics they would be interested in addressing and it was also through this consultation that the program for these five days of the X Solicitor’s Week was put together.
Thus, the program consists of seminars in the most varied areas of Law such as Consumerism, Successions, Urban Planning and Criminal Law, but also with workshops on topics such as ‘public speaking’, ‘preparing presentations’ or ‘preparing CVs’ .
“The highlight of this Solicitor’s Week is the Mock Trial, which takes place on Friday and involves the participation of judges”, explains Iva Faria.
In an initiative that involves all 3rd year students, the mock trial takes place at 3 pm for daytime students and at 6:30 pm for after-work students. It should be noted that this initiative will take place precisely on Solicitor’s Day, May 10th.
Yesterday, the opening session of the X Week of Solicitors also participated in the opening session of the ESG director, Sandra Cunha, who highlighted that this event is already “an ESG reference” and “brings a very unique dynamic to both the degree and the master’s degree in Solicitors ”.
Sandra Cunha highlighted that the degree in Solicitors has been in immense demand. “The average access to the course has been increasing considerably every year and it is a degree that has filled all the vacancies in the first phase of the national competition for access to higher education”, he said, highlighting that there is also high demand for the master’s degree.
ESG is the largest and oldest school in the IPCA, with a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, including professional master’s degrees, during working hours and after work, in person and via distance learning.
The degrees are in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Public Management, Business Management and Solicitors.
