Aline Hall de Beuvink, former vice-president, guarantees that the activists were embarrassed by the way the party was treated during the electoral campaign and argues that it is necessary to “redo” the PPM. “We can’t be playing games,” she says.

A group of PPM activists is preparing an alternative to the leadership of Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira and hopes to be able to convene an extraordinary congress soon. Aline Hall de Beuvink, former vice-president, guarantees that many activists “feel embarrassed” by what is happening in the PPM and are available to “renew and remake” the party.

The PPM gained prominence in the last legislative elections, after joining the Democratic Alliance, but found itself involved in several controversies due to the positions taken by fado singer Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira. “The activists were embarrassed by the way the PPM was treated in recent months. We could have taken advantage of this opportunity to give visibility to the party, but this was all a shame”, says to NOVO Aline Beuvink, who will ask for the party congress that took place in the Azores to be challenged.

The former leader points out several “illegalities” and “irregularities” in the way the party is operating and points the finger at the president. “PPM works in a closed loop. I’m tired of saying within the party that this is not the way to work. I’m tired of pointing out irregularities, but no one wants to listen,” she laments.

Aline guarantees that she is not “alone” in trying to convene an extraordinary congress, because many activists are outraged by the stance of Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira, who has been at the head of the party since 2017. “He has no political ideas, nor does he know how to articulate them. We can’t play games with parties”, says the university professor, convinced that there are conditions to present an alternative to the current leadership. “More lists will appear to renew and redo the PPM”, she assures.

“We are fighting so that all activists can have a voice. The most important thing is to debate valid, constructive and modern ideas”, concludes the former PPM leader, rejecting that the party can continue to be “hostage to a small group”.
