The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Marco de Canaveses is promoting the ‘Protected 2024’ campaign, to support pilgrims who are making the pilgrimage to Fátima.
According to the person responsible for the campaign, Bruno Monteiro, this initiative “directly assists 300 pilgrims, departing from Marco de Canaveses, from a safety perspective, before, during and at the end of the entire route”. The ‘Protected 2024’ campaign included “prior meetings, direct awareness-raising actions with pilgrims, paying particular attention to issues of self-protection and safety. In addition, it included the allocation of high visibility clothing and equipment, as well as basic medical supplies: disposables, compresses, bandages, gloves, band-aids, and also pharmaceutical items.”.
Bruno Monteiro said that the Municipal Civil Protection Service is already on the road and will continue to do so, “throughout the week, in a deployment exercise between the different groups, in conjunction with the police and rescue authorities. Our biggest concern is the safety of everyone, especially on the roads already identified, as having significant traffic, with many heavy vehicles, reducing space for walking and reducing visibility for pilgrims and drivers”.
