This year, Faro City Council will transfer a record amount to the municipality’s school groups: 2.5 million euros.

After having approved, in February, a protocol for the delegation of powers and transfer of resources of around 1.3 million, the Municipality of Faro approved, on April 24, an addendum to the protocol to increase the budget by another 1.3 million, 2 million.

The objective is to “support the João de Deus, Pinheiro e Rosa, Tomás Cabreira, D. Afonso III, Montenegro school groups, as well as the Dr. Alberto Iria School Group (located in the municipality of Olhão, but with responsibilities at the level of management of EB1 in Culatra)», explains the Chamber of Faro.

This increase in the amount to be transferred aims to ensure, among other needs, the conservation and maintenance of educational buildings (pre-school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle), the children’s folklore project, as well as the first tranche to students in need (school social action).

This amount represents a record amount transferred by the Municipality of Faro to the municipality’s school groups, within the scope of the protocols for the delegation of powers and transfer of resources, compared to 2.2 million euros in 2023.

In parallel, the Municipality of Faro is also preparing a profound requalification of its school park, in a series of investments that amount to more than 16 million euros, with the construction of the new EB/JI Afonso III school, and the requalifications of the EB 2 School , 3 Afonso III, from EB 2, 3 Neves Júnior and the school and nursery building that make up EB1 Estoi.

For Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, «the increase in the funds transferred to the groups allows the municipality’s school establishments to have increasingly better teaching, learning and comfort conditions for the school community, at the same time that it helps to promote a education that we want to be increasingly inclusive and close to excellence».
