Deputies will call Inspector General of Finance to parliament

-

O Chega’s request was approved with the favorable vote of all parties, with the exception of Livre, which abstained (Bloco de Esquerda and PCP were not present in the room).

At issue is the value of subsidies awarded by public entities, but not reported to the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), which, according to that entity’s audit reports, exceeded 1,000 million euros, considering the years 2021 and 2022.

Chega considers that this “report unequivocally demonstrates the lack of control and, above all, supervision that exists in Portugal by those who oversee these entities”.

In 2021, the value of subsidies and benefits granted by public entities and communicated to the IGF, as determined by current legislation, was 7,471 million euros.

However, according to the IGF report, the control audit revealed that 145 grantors (among 90 local authorities, 45 entities from the autonomous region of the Azores and 10 from the central administration) missed the deadline for reporting subsidies worth 628.1 million of euros, “contrary to the law”.

“The majority of entities claimed limited resources or lapses/forgetfulness and, in the case of the Azores, the lack of a protocol between the Republic and Regional Governments was mentioned”, states the IGF audit.

Data recently released by the IGF indicate that in 2023, 8,003 million euros of public subsidies were allocated, with there still being no information on compliance with legal requirements.

A vote was scheduled to be taken on another request from Chega for an urgent hearing with the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs, Cláudia Reis Duarte, on the collection of taxes on dams, but it was postponed.

The same happened with the vote on the request presented by BE for an urgent hearing with the director-general of the Tax and Customs Authority and the Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs on the collection of taxes associated with dams.
