Comedian and presenter Nuno Markl expressed his delight with the man who went viral on social media after admitting that he was in the procession of the Crosses, in Barcelos, just “to say thank you”.

“I feel like this is the man I want to be one day”, writes the creator of the program “Man Who Bitten the Dog”, on Commercial Radioand co-host of “Task Master”, on RTPon his Instagram account where he has 886 thousand followers.

And he elaborates: “I want to reach this level of frankness, this enchanting fusion of honesty and, at the same time, almost sweetness in the way it is delivered, proving that a person can launch sincere jabs and that they never stop poking, even if the head of the pin is made of fluffy caramel.”

Nuno Markl also highlights “the desperation of the poor journalist in search of a little excitement. ‘Aren’t you proud?’”.

“The man just wanted to be at home, damn it. This is me 95% of the time, I just hide it”, he concludes.

“If it weren’t for thanks I wouldn’t be here”

As O MINHO reported, one of the participants in the Grand Procession of the Invention of the Santa Cruz, one of the highlights of the Festa das Cruzes, which took place last week in Barcelos, went viral on social media for stating, in an interview with the local radio that he covered the event, which was only there “thank you”.

On Friday, May 3rd, a municipal holiday, the Radio Barcelos I was reporting live, with image transmission on Facebook, when the reporter questioned one of the participants in the traditional procession that brings together the crosses of the 89 parishes in the municipality.

But the answers were completely unexpected and the unusual interview ended up going viral on social media, where it was shared by the entertainment page Bílbia Mt Engarsada.

The journalist questions the man, called António, from the parish of Pereira, about what it means for him to be in that procession, which is one of the highlights of the first great pilgrimage in Minho.

António responds: “It represents a lot of what I don’t know”. And let out a laugh.

Then, he adds that “it is the first time” that he has participated in the procession, but that he only does so “out of obligation”.

“Of course this is an obligation, if it wasn’t an obligation I wouldn’t be here”, says the interviewee.

Faced with a new question from the journalist, the man explains that “it has to be a law of the parish”.

The reporter insists that he is “free to accept” participating or not in the procession, to which António counters: “Free to accept, but there are obligations to fulfill”.

The interviewee explains that he is representing the Confraria do Subsino, so it can be deduced that the “obligation” is in relation to that entity. “I have a role and I have a duty to do it”, he reinforces.

When asked if he is proud to be there, he also responds without much enthusiasm: “Pride is like everything, it’s like any other challenge”.
