“No one deserves this treatment.” Cravinho leaves support for Ana Jorge

O Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, left, this Wednesday, a word of support for the exonerated ombudsman of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, Ana Jorge, who was accused by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Ramalho, of having benefited herself.

“A big hug to Ana Jorge, illustrious and proven servant of the public cause, with whom I had the privilege of working as Minister of Defense, first in the restructuring of Military Health and then in the Portuguese Red Cross”said Gomes Cravinho, who was Minister of Defense between 2018 and 2022, on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“No one deserves this treatment, least of all her”he added.

At the center of the controversy, remember, are statements by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, who accused Ana Jorge and the managers of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa of having “benefited themselves”.

“Those at the table were even increased. We were surprised. (…) they benefited themselves, not at all, the people who are in the operation”criticized the minister, noting that the majority of Santa Casa workers earn the minimum wage.

Ana Jorge already “profoundly” denied the accusations and stated that “it is necessary to justify what the benefit is.” He also recalled that 2023 was a period “of major internal reorganizations”, in which “solutions for workers were found, improving especially those with lower salaries”.

At issue are statements by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, who accused Ana Jorge and the managers of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa of having “benefited themselves”.

Ana Jorge took office on May 2, 2023, chosen by the previous socialist government of António Costa, and inherited an institution with serious financial difficulties, after years of pandemic and a process of internationalization of social games, carried out by the administration of provider Edmundo Martinho, which may have caused losses of around 50 million euros.

After her dismissal, the ombudsman wrote a letter to all the workers at Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, in which she accused the Government of having dismissed her in a “rude, arrogant and slanderous manner” and was taken by surprise.
