The IV FLUC Communication Sciences Conference will take place on the 12th and 13th of June, free of charge and, for the first time, in a hybrid format. The event promoted by 3rd cycle PhD students in Communication Sciences has a Scientific Committee made up of more than 60 names from various national and international institutions, will feature more than 80 work presentations in parallel sessions, with two conferences and with a debate. The works that will be presented are by authors from institutions spread across countries in Europe (Portugal, Spain and Italy), Africa (Angola) and America (Brazil and Canada).

In the year in which the fiftieth anniversary of April 25, 1974 is celebrated, the FLUC Communication Sciences Conference proposes, in this fourth edition, the theme “The Crossed Paths of Communication and Democracy”. In this sense, researchers were proposed to submit abstracts that reflect on the relationship between democracy, the media, and the various communication agents and actors.

On June 12th, the event will begin, at 10am, with the opening session, at FLUC’s Amphitheater III, which will be attended by Doctor Albano Figueiredo, director of FLUC, Doctor Rita Basílio de Simões, coordinator of the PhD in Communication Sciences at FLUC, and the representatives of students from the 3rd cycle in Communication Sciences at FLUC. After the opening session, the debate on “Regional journalism and democracy: what relationship?” follows, with the participation of Doctor João Figueira (UC), Doctor Pedro Jerónimo (UBI) and Doctor Liliana Carona (UC), under the moderation of Doctor Ana Teresa Peixinho (UC). The first day of the event ends with parallel sessions, in online format, for the presentation of some submitted works.

On June 13th, exclusively online, Doctor Viktor Chagas (UFF) will lead the conference “For a deontology of humor: political communication, memes and democracy”, which will be moderated by Doctor João Miranda (UC). The remaining works submitted will then be presented in parallel sessions, again in online format. After the parallel sessions, to conclude the IV edition of the FLUC Communication Sciences Conference, there will be a closing conference on “Populism, Political Communication and Democracy”, in online format, given by Doctor Liziane Guazina (UnB), with the moderation by Doctor Inês Amaral (UC).

Participation in the IV FLUC Communication Sciences Conference is free, however, prior registration is required. Registration runs from May 6th to June 6th, and can be done on the website https://jornadasdecomunicacao.uc.pt/.
