The Liberal Initiative came today to defend the reduction of the size of the State in Autonomy, which “must be a comprehensive proposal that encompasses multiple strategic reforms, which seek to transform public administration into a more efficient and less costly system for Madeirans”.

One of the first steps in this process, say liberals, involves the privatization of public companies, in order to reduce the administrative burden on the State, in addition to potentially increasing economic efficiency by introducing competition and private management into the equation.

“It is crucial, however, to ensure that such sales are carried out transparently and with adequate safeguards to protect the public interest. Before the usual chico-smartness comes, we are not in favor of the privatization of state monopolies, unless they cease to be such”, says IL.

Additionally, it is essential to cut intermediate consumption that does not directly contribute to the production of public goods or services. Centralizing purchases is always an effective tool, allowing the State to negotiate better conditions, taking advantage of economies of scale, leading to a significant reduction in spending, says IL, educationally.

Another area that needs attention is the reassessment of the allocation of subsidies, consider the liberals.

“Many of these programs, despite being well-intentioned, fail to achieve their objectives or are perpetuated without a critical analysis of the results achieved. Restructuring subsidies, eliminating those that do not produce desired results and reinforcing those that work, frees up significant financial resources”, advocates IL.

In infrastructure, projects that offer the greatest social and economic return must be prioritized. Implementing an evidence-based approach to project selection helps avoid ineffective investments and ensures that limited resources are used where they can really make a difference.

In the critical health and education sectors, optimizing operational efficiency is essential. The implementation of digital technologies for managing resources and services can reduce operational costs and improve the quality of service, ensuring that investments are made intelligently.

Finally, the renegotiation of regional debt and the rigorous evaluation of tax incentives are measures that can alleviate financial burdens and ensure that the incentives are truly beneficial and do not cause economic distortions or fiscal injustices, concludes IL.

These reforms, when implemented, can transform the Government into a more agile and effective entity.
