Chamusca hosts traditional Bullfight Entrance on a municipal holiday

Chamusca is celebrating until next Sunday, May 12th, with Ascension Week, the event that brings together all the cultural and gastronomic passions of the region, which annually brings together thousands of visitors and involves all the parishes and associations/institutions of the region. county. This Thursday is the day of the traditional Bull Entrance, one of the most anticipated moments of Chamusca’s biggest week.

Running from last Saturday, May 4th, until the 12th, the most important event in the municipality of Chamusca reaches its peak on Ascensão Thursday, May 9th, a municipal holiday, with the traditional Entrance of Bullfights, where the bullfights run along the main artery of the town from Areal to the Centenary Bullfighting Square.

It is on this day that the town of Chamusca receives thousands of fans, who come in search of the thrill of watching the bulls pass by and experiencing a truly magical and unique spectacle, in a wave of enthusiasm and emotion, which translates into a recreation of other times, at a time when the population awaited the arrival of the wild bulls, which were brought from the moors and cattle farms to the town, for the traditional bullfight on Thursday de Ascensão or to work in the fields.

At that time, these animals were the ones that pulled the plows to work the land. The day these animals arrived was always a high and exciting moment in the municipality. Remember that Chamusca has had a great tradition linked to bullfighting for many years, with the first existing records dating back to the 19th century. XVII.

On this day, the gifts of the earth are also celebrated, with the Traditional Harvesting of Espiga, in the region’s fields. The afternoon is marked by the traditional bullfight (6pm) at the century-old Chamusca Bullring.

The day begins early on Thursday with the Harvest of Espiga (08:00) in the Municipality’s fields, followed by the Religious Celebration Blessing of the Goods of the Earth and Animals (next to the Main Church) (10:00), with the traditional procession through main avenue (11am), with Bullfight Entrance (12pm) and the Confraria da Espiga Gastronomic Tasting (1:30pm), in the Municipal Park. In the afternoon, the century-old Chamusca Bullring hosts the traditional Mixed Bullfight (6pm).

In the square will be the knights Francisco Palha, António Telles (son) and the matador António Ferreira. Taking part will be the two groups of forcados from the Municipality: the Grupo de Forcados Amadores da Chamusca and the Forcados Amateurs do Aposento da Chamusca. During the race, four bulls from Ganadaria Passanha will be handled on horseback and two bulls from the Murteira Grave cattle ranch will be handled on foot.

The Eng. Jorge Duque Trophy will also be awarded for the best handle and the Dr. João Duque Trophy for the Best Handle on Horseback. The Acensão Bullfighting Fair will be a party, conviviality and celebration, of figures and young values ​​and with three postín ganadarias!

Until May 12th, all roads will lead to Chamusca for the biggest party in the municipality, a week of nine days of sharing and reunions with family and friends.
