Angola is currently the fifth destination market for Alentejo wines, which exported one million liters to the African country in 2023, announced the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA).

“With 30% of wine production in the Alentejo region destined for export, Angola has occupied a prominent place in international markets. Currently, it is the 5th destination market for Alentejo wines”, said Francisco Mateus, president of the CVRA board, in a statement.

In terms of value, exports to Angola represented a total of 3.8 million euros, corresponding to 3.4 billion kwanzas.

On Tuesday, CVRA promoted training and a wine dinner, in Luanda, to “promote the quality of Alentejo wines, enhance commercial relations and create new business opportunities in the Angolan market”, highlights the press release.

The Alentejo region is the sales leader (in value) in the Portuguese market and ended 2023 with a market share of more than 35%.

Francisco Mateus pointed out that this is the return of CVRA’s actions to Angola, a territory where they intend to “strengthen investment and the presence of Alentejo wines, as well as enhance partnerships and business opportunities”

A new training session and a wine dinner are scheduled for June.

Created in 1989, CVRA is responsible for ensuring control of the origin and quality of wines from the Alentejo Region, and for their certification with Denomination of Controlled Origin (DOC) or Alentejo Geographical Indication.
