The Municipality of Mangualde renewed the protocol between Proviseu. Dr. José Azeredo Perdigão Regional Music Conservatory and the Mangualde School Group to continue the POEMa municipal orchestra, ensuring the costs related to training.
“This is a project that we really believe in, which has been proven for a decade, which grows year after year and which contributes to the education and culture of our students”, recognizes the president of the Mangualde City Council, Marco Almeida. Currently, around a hundred musicians are part of POEma and POEMinha.
“We will soon move forward with the rehabilitation and expansion works of the space adjacent to the Casa da Música e da Cultura, in order to guarantee students better rehearsal conditions”, assures Marco Almeida.
To mark a decade of existence, the POEMa orchestra, which has already had the collaboration of around 300 musicians, released its first CD at the beginning of this year.
This municipal orchestra, founded in 2013, began by integrating students who attended articulated music education (CRMV/AEM) and members of the philharmonic bands in the municipality of Mangualde. The project quickly grew and was extended to neighboring municipalities, in order to be more dynamic and inclusive. Currently, POEMa is a versatile orchestra with variable formation, with chamber music groups, big band, string orchestra, symphonic band, classical orchestra and symphonic orchestra. Its instrumental formations are as varied as its repertoire, presenting music from different periods (from the 17th century to the present day) and different styles: classical, jazz, world music and rock.
