Starting this Thursday, Braga will host the second edition of the INDEX biennial, which until the 19th will present around 50 artistic proposals ranging from the Japanese Ryoji Ikeda to the Turner Prize winner Lawrence Abu Hamdan.

Under the theme “Coexistence”, and with four axes (Performance, Thought, Exhibition and Mediation), INDEX will take place at Theatro Circo, at gnration, at the Tibães Monastery, at the Nogueira da Silva Museum and at the Galeria do Paço da Rectoria da Minho’s university.

One of the highlights of the program goes to Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda, back in Braga to present “Ultratronics”, and to Turner prize winner Lawrence Abu Hamdan, who proposes the conference-performance “Air Pressure”, “which addresses issues related with the violation of Lebanese airspace by the Israeli air force”.

The duo Synspecies, by Elias Merino and Tadej Droljc, presents the audiovisual show “ASBU”, while Kode9 returns to Braga with “Escapology”.

In a statement, the organization also highlights the show, at gnration, on May 18, which brings together the duo dmstfctn and Evita Manji in “Waluigi’s Purgatory”, “which places spectators inside a 3D theater with characters animated in real time through the capture of facial movements and voice modulation”.

“The 11 days of the second edition of INDEX are also represented by an exhibition program spread across the city, with the values ​​of the Carnation Revolution in mind”, with exhibitions such as “Advice Well Taken”, by Dasha Ilina, “Hardly Working”, by Total Refusal, at gnration, “45th Parallel” and “Rubber Coated Steel”, by Lawrence Abu Hamdan, and “Empire’s Island”, by Jonas Staal, at Theatro Circo; “Arquivista IA: Antologia de Franciscos Francos”, by Nestor Pestana, at Galeria do Paço, “Archiving Machines”, by Alexa Szekeres and Remi Kuforiji, at Museu Nogueira da Silva, and “Fish Cube”, by SUPERFLEX and KWY.studio, and “The Future Light Cone”, by Kyriaki Goni, at the Tibães Monastery.

The biennial also includes a program of debates and conferences on the “integration of artificial intelligence in society, the political challenges of current technologies and the importance of ‘whistleblowing’ to expose social, economic and political irregularities, among other focuses of thought, with the presence of internationally renowned experts and thinkers such as Sénamé Koffi Agbodjinou Steve Goodman, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Teresa Castro, Frédéric Neyrat”, among others.
