The explosion of a gas cylinder in a garage of a house on Avenida Cimo de Vila, in Turiz, was felt within a radius of 3 kilometers, according to data provided by Municipal Civil Protection. The house where four people lived is uninhabitable, due to the impact and damage caused, with two adjacent houses suffering considerable damage.
The family will have to be relocated, but there will be a solution with family members. As for the neighboring houses, one belongs to emigrants and another, despite the damage, should be able to remain inhabited.
More than a dozen homes in the surrounding area also suffered damage, which is being assessed by the authorities.
Two vehicles were also destroyed, according to information collected at the scene.
The Avenida Cimo de Vila road is closed to car and human traffic, at a time when the municipal Civil Protection services are carrying out debris removal work.
EXPLOSION
The explosion occurred this morning, in a garage of the house, presumably caused by a gas cylinder. It caused damage to several homes and destroyed two vehicles. One person was assisted at the scene, according to Civil Protection.
The alert was given at 2:13 am. There were 16 operatives on site, supported by nine vehicles from the Vila Verde Fire Department, GNR and INEM.
From what we learned, the explosion occurred in a garage of the most affected house, where the four inhabitants were sleeping on the upper floor.
Despite the damage, according to Civil Protection, there were no injuries.
GNR and Civil Protection are on site. The street is closed to traffic.
