Three suspects arrested for ordering Marielle Franco to be killed – World

The Federal Police (PF) of Brazil arrested at dawn this Sunday, March 24, the three alleged masterminds behind the murder of Rio de Janeiro councilwoman Marielle Franco, killed in a hail of gunfire in that Brazilian city on March 14, 2018 in a crime brutal event that had repercussions around the world.

In this Sunday’s operation, a day when the PF does not usually carry out operations, federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão, the counselor of the Court of Auditors of Rio de Janeiro Domingos Brazão, brother of the parliamentarian, and the deputy (inspector) of the Civil Police (Judicial) also from Rio de Janeiro Rivaldo Barbosa.

Rivaldo took over as head of the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police the day before the deaths of Marielle and her driver, Anderson Gomes, who was also shot, and is now head of that corporation’s Communications and Operations sector.

The arrests were a joint action by the Federal Police, the Attorney General’s Office and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, and were based on collaborative testimony made by former Rio de Janeiro Military Police sergeant Ronnie Lessa, confessed author of the blast that caused the deaths of Marielle and Anderson, imprisoned since 2019.
