Last-minute change to the script left Bradley Cooper uncomfortable.

From the first draft of a film to the script that will actually be filmed there is an abyss, and it is normal for a thousand and one changes to occur. Of course, there are cases in which a change in the script can have extreme consequences – like what made Bradley Cooper want to leave The Place Where It All Ends.

Although his name seems to be somewhat lost in Hollywood, Derek Cianfrance managed to attract the attention of moviegoers when he released Lovers Forever, in 2010. At the time, there was some expectation to see the next project that the director would do with Ryan Gosling after the good -successful romantic drama.

Well, the next film was The Place Where It All Ends, which presented some problems from the beginning, when Cianfrance asked for the script to be rewritten. In an interview with Varietythe director said that Bradley Cooper didn’t like the final version AT ALL and wrote to him saying he would abandon the project.

“I gave the script [ao roteirisita], he made a lot of notes, and I kind of agreed with a lot of them. So we spent 10 to 6 weeks rewriting every word. I remember giving Bradley Cooper a copy of the latest version of The Place Where It Ends and getting a voicemail from him saying, ‘Dude, I just want to let you know that I read the new script and I’m out,” he said.

According to Cooper, that “wasn’t the film I signed on for” and, furthermore, the changes took place shortly before filming began. Given the urgency of the situation, Cianfrance rushed to try to change the actor’s mind.

“I said to him, ‘Can I come over and talk to you about this?’ So I went to Montreal and had a long talk with him, from midnight until 3:30 in the morning, when I got him to come back. I convinced him in the last five minutes. I think he was just tired and wanted to sleep,” he recalled.
