The actor’s performance was met with some controversies.

As a teenager, Edward Furlong managed to make cinema history alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The actor was later seen in acclaimed works such as The Other American Story, but made headlines mainly for his problems with illicit substances. In 2019, Furlong finally returned to the role of John Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate.

The actor’s appearance in Dark Fate, which takes place three years after the second film, isn’t particularly good – and for a pretty brutal reason. Furlong recently appeared on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside Of You podcast and talked about his cameo in the 2019 film:

I did this to find out what was going on. I had very mixed feelings, I knew I wasn’t capable of making a film at that moment. […] I was happy to have the character back, even if it was just for a day

Furlong is referring to the fact that he was going through withdrawal while filming Dark Fate and therefore wasn’t exactly in the best physical and mental condition at the time.

The film failed to match the quality of The Terminator or Judgment Day, but it was a step in the right direction for many fans of the sci-fi action franchise.
