Consolidating his career in Hollywood, the actor has a curious relationship with the Brazilian dubbing of his international characters.

The number of Brazilian artists in Hollywood has grown every year. Recently, in addition to Bruna Marquezine in Besouro Azul, Gabriel Leone in Ferrari and Sophie Charlotte in the feature The Assassin, Wagner Moura also emerged with a new international project: Civil War. One of A24’s most ambitious productions, the film co-stars Kirsten Dunst and Cailee Spaeny.

Directed by Alex Garland, filmmaker known for Extermination, Ex-Machina and Annihilation, the film gained notoriety after its first worldwide screening at the SXSW Festival. Distributed by Diamond in Brazil, the film delivers a narrative set in a dystopia that is not so far from our reality.

The plot follows a group of journalists who travel across the United States during an intense conflict that involves the entire nation. In addition to the protagonist duo, the film’s cast also includes names such as Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman.

Wagner Moura voices his character in Guerra Civil?

With a unique performance in the plot, the Brazilian artist has stood out throughout the publicity tour for the new – and perhaps last – feature film directed by Alex Garland. Among so many details and information released about Civil War, there is one detail that many must have missed: after all, did Wagner Moura do the Brazilian dubbing of his character?

The answer is quite simple: no, the actor does not play Joel’s voice. Although he did voice work for his character in Elysium and Sergio, this does not happen in his other projects, such as Wasp Network: Network of Spies, in which his character is voiced by Alexandre Moreno, known for providing the voice of Adam Sandler.

In Iluminadas, for example, Wagner’s voice is Jorge Lucas, while in Agente Oculto and Sr. & Sra. Smith he is dubbed by Júlio Monjardim. The case of Narcos is curious, as Pablo Escobar’s frequent speeches were only subtitled, while the dialogues in English (in the original) were passed into Brazilian Portuguese. Even more curious is Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order, in which the original voice of Lobo belongs to the actor, but the PT BR version was divided between Eduardo Borgerth (trailer) and Sérgio Moreno (final cut).

In Civil War, his Brazilian interpreter is Daniel Müller, an actor who has already voiced characters in Captain America: Civil War, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse, Rebel Moon – Part 1: The Fire Girl, X- Men: Apocalypse, among many other projects.

Civil War is showing in theaters.
