Uwe Boll, considered the worst director in the world, is back! 8 years after his last film, he’s coming out of retirement for a surprising new project.

In 2016, German filmmaker Uwe Boll announced he was ending his career, believing the industry was dead. “We don’t make money making movies anymore because DVD and Blu-ray sales have dropped over 80% in just three years worldwide. That’s the real reason, I just can’t afford to make movies anymore,” he confessed.

Often considered the worst contemporary filmmaker (or the most hated director in Hollywood), mainly because of his failed video game adaptations (House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, Salve-se Quem Puder), Uwe Boll backtracked in your decision!

Hollywood’s most hated director is back!

After all, Rampage 3 (2016) will not be his last film. According to Variety, the 58-year-old director will return with Run, a project about the migrant crisis.

Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction, Star Trek Picard) will star in the feature film alongside James Russo and Ulrich Thomsen. Marcus Henderson, Barkhad Abdi and Costas Mandylor are also on board.

The story takes us to a boat that transports migrants from several African countries to Italy. When the boat deviates from the route, the situation degenerates and the migrants accuse the smugglers. After finally reaching shore, the desperate passengers try to evade the police, and some manage to escape.

“Migration by boat from Africa to Europe, through smugglers, intensifies every year and has become a terrible situation for the population and migrants. Communities that have to care for migrants feel abandoned by politicians and they can no longer manage the situation.”

The migrant crisis seen by Uwe Boll

“My film shows a day in an Italian coastal town where a violent drama is unfolding. Therefore, we present a microcosm that shows that the situation will get out of control and possibly very violent,” explains Uwe Boll.

“For each film, I draw up a list of potential actors, and Amanda Plummer, James Russo and Ulrich Thomsen had the advantage of all being on that list and being represented by the same agent, Michael Greene.”

“From Daniel Sauli to Kristen Renton and Marcus Henderson, everyone in the film fits together perfectly and I hope that with this great cast we have a chance at the Venice or Toronto film festivals in the fall,” the director added. Filming is expected to begin on April 17 in Croatia.

It is worth mentioning that the German director completed another film before this one. It was the crime film First Shift, in which two mismatched New York cops are forced to work together. Uwe Boll is definitely back!

In 2006, the director caused a huge uproar when he confronted his detracting journalists in a boxing ring. All of this can be seen in a documentary entitled Raging Boll, which recalls his attempt to conquer Hollywood and his way of settling scores with critics, with hooks and punches.
