Fifth film confirmed, original John Wick shows how hero returns from death, as he breathed his last at the end of the fourth film. It wouldn’t be the first time the protagonist has survived a brush with death. The clue to unraveling this mystery may lie in the original film.

It wouldn’t be the first time the central character has survived a brush with death. At the end of the franchise’s third episode, John Wick Chapter 3, Parabellum, the gunslinger falls from a building.

The room shows a shootout and ends with the image of John Wick’s grave, next to his wife’s grave. Throughout the four adventures we’ve seen so far, the character survives a series of attempts on his life. The first film may give a clue to the gunman’s return. The American website ScreenRant explains how the theory could work.

In the first scene of the adventure that gave rise to the franchise, we see John Wick injured, after a shootout, getting out of a car. The rain starts to fall, when he takes his phone out of his pocket and starts watching videos of his late wife. This initial scene gives the impression that the character is about to take his last breath. Of course, at the end of the film, the situation is different.

Instead of seeing the hero’s end, he manages to gather his strength, breaks into a veterinary clinic to treat his injuries, picks up a puppy and walks back home.

This opening scene and the final scene show the character facing an inevitable end. In his situations, Wick is seriously injured and seems to accept that the end is near. The two scenes also show the character remembering his deceased wife and how she was always his inspiration to continue living. The only difference is that in the first one he gets up and returns home, while the fourth film leaves the possibility of him surviving in the air.

The central character may have faked his death to escape the crime syndicate with Winston’s help. The character played by actor Ian McShane. He is the manager of the Continental hotel, a territory for members of the crime syndicate.

In the final scene of John Wick 4, the seriously injured central character asks Winston “can you take me home”, before going down the stairs in front of the church in Paris.

This question can have two meanings. It could be that Wick was just asking Winston to bury him and his wife. It could also mean that Winston would be helping the central character to pretend he died, since he doesn’t go after Wick. He would be like that, letting John live in peace.

The plot

John Wick is a retired professional assassin. A group of Russian bandits steal his car and kill a puppy he received as a gift from his late wife. In search of revenge, the gunman goes after the gang. The film was released in 2014. In total, 4 adventures told the cinemas telling the saga of the central character. The franchise has already grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office.
