Jack Antonoff has always been apart. That’s what he says himself. He never belonged to any scene. Even the ones he was there to see. Born in New Jersey, he saw music happen there, and, in the next state, New York, he caught “the Strokes moment in the early 2000s” and watched “a bit of the Williamsburg scene”, in Brooklyn. At the same time, he was Scarlett Johansson’s high school boyfriend (they went to prom together) and is married to Margaret Qualley, making him Andie MacDowell’s son-in-law, and almost Hollywood royalty. His sister Rachel is a renowned fashion designer. On the outside, he is also one of the biggest pop producers in the world, all thanks to his work with names like Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey or Lorde. He called his band Bleachers precisely because of this: “bleachers” are the cheap and cheap seats at sporting events. It was in relation to the album of the same name, the band’s fourth, that he spoke to Ípsilon via video call.
