“Celebrating life through death” passed through Curitiba for the farewell night of the great “Sepultura do Brasil”, this Friday (22). Reaching 40 years old with 15 studio albums released and 10 world tours leaves no doubt about the importance of the band that took the name of Brazilian metal to the four corners of the world. From “Morbid Visions” to “Quadra”, the group’s career was marked by achievements, controversies, line-up changes, but of course, a lot of success. See photos and videos from the show below.

At 10:05 pm Andreas Kisser, Paulo Xisto, Derrick Green and Greyson Nekrutman took the stage at a completely packed Live Curitiba, with fans looking forward to a night full of trash metal classics.

The set list revisited the quartet’s entire career and the beginning couldn’t be better, with three tracks from the incomparable “Chaos AD”: “Refuse/Resist”, “Territory” and “Slave New World”, which left no doubt that the night it would be killer.

Afterwards, Derrick greeted the Curitiba audience briefly to announce “Phantom Self”, a song from the good “Messiah Machine”, from 2017. Then, the renowned “Roots” phase asked for passage with “Dusted”, followed by the berimbau chords that raised the headbangers with “Attitude”.

“Kairos” was another one from the set that showed that the choice for drummer Greyson Nekrutman was the right one, he arrived at 45 in the second half to take over the place left by Eloy Casagrande and held the line excellently.

It was then time for Andreas Kisser to thank his fans for 40 years on the road, officially introduce Greyson Nekrutman and, as a bonus, announce “Means to an end”, from the excellent “Quadra”.

Throats were cut with the killer “Cut-throat”, another one from “Roots”, the turning point in the band’s career (in many ways). Andreas Kisser, counting the massive participation of the more than 3 thousand present at Live Curitiba, begins the chords of the sensational “Guardians of Earth”.

With 26 years in the band, the most Brazilian American in the history of Heavy Metal, Derrick Green, interacts with the Curitiban public in his own style: “What’s up guys? Everyone happy? Happy and ready for “Mind War”, the only one from the “Roorback” album in the set.

A track also performed from the album Dante XXI: “False”. It was time for the first hit from “Fase Predator”: Choke, from the singer’s debut album “Against”, from 1998. “Escape to the void” made old school fans happy, referring to the debut by Andreas Kisser with the band in “Schizophrenia”, from 1987.

The tribal phase was also remembered, including a brief clip with images of the Xavante Indians on the screen, featuring the jam of “Kaiowas”, from “Chaos AD”, with young Greyson supported by Derrick, Paulo and Andreas on percussion .

After “Sepulnation”, destruction continued when Derrick “Predator” Green, who, despite not being unanimous among the band’s fans, had the public in his hands, which was proven in the killer “Biotech is Godzilla”, opening the “mosh” once and for all. pit”.

“Agony of defeat” was the moment for everyone to take their last breath before the devastating finale that was about to come.

And the most nostalgic fans went crazy with the sequence “Troops of doom”, “Inner Self”, “Arise” in addition to the more than expected “Ratamahatta” and “Roots Bloody Roots”, which closed the night with a flourish.

Farewell or… see you later?

Mission accomplished, respect for the fans and the expectation of the promised DVD of the last tour, with images captured at all the shows of the farewell tour. Was there a sound missing from the setlist? The question remains unanswered, but the public certainly said goodbye to Sepultura satisfied with what they saw.

By the way, FIRE? It will be? Well, only time will tell! If it were a football player, we could say that the band announces their retirement by “hanging up their boots” on a high note. Sepultura do Brasil 1, 2, 3, 4!!!
