Early on, despite the band’s excitement, the singer had problems with the sound. Throughout the opening, with “Blood, Tears, Dust”, the throaty vocals of his partner Andrea Ferro were heard much more than his voice as a frontwoman. The problem was soon resolved and, in the duo “Reckless” and “Trip the Darkness”, Scabbia had returned to sounding crystal clear as expected.
With everything working perfectly in “Heaven’s a Lie”, the two singers quickly managed to bring the band’s darker atmosphere to the public — even with that crystal blue sky and under the sun at three o’clock on a Saturday afternoon in São Paulo.
For those who don’t know, Lacuna Coil’s sound is dark and seductive — in reality, we’re talking about a band that manages to make its songs sound absolutely sexy without losing weight at any point, as is guaranteed in the dynamics between the two vocalists. It’s a modern sound, with a high dramatic and theatrical charge (see the face paints of the rest of the band), as only metal can be.
But even in the midst of darkness, Cristina made a point of showing that a lot of light still shines there. Opening her heart and without fear of sounding too corny or fragile, she made a point of saying that, after the pandemic, they never take anything for granted anymore.
“We want to take a minute to thank you. Resuming shows after the pandemic is incredible because nothing beats this experience. Being here and creating this connection. Nothing can replicate that.” She even asked them to celebrate together, enjoying the energy together.
