Marty Friedman, a member of Megadeth between 1990 and 2000, made special appearances in shows that the band led by Dave Mustaine performed in Japan and Germany. The presentations were held respectively in February and August last year.

“Oh, it was fantastic. The Budokan [arena localizada em Tóquio, Japão] it was the only thing that remained unfinished in the relationship between me and Dave, which has always been fantastic and continues to be. But there was just one little thing that was there that was kind of left hanging. And Dave was very kind to invite me to play at the Budokan in Japan, and it was a great way to end things – wonderful for me, wonderful for the band. But the fans, seeing the fans that were there that night, it was something really special, something unusual. The fans’ gaze was different from a normal show. People were in disbelief, laughing, crying and smiling a lot, and it was a really special event, and I’m really glad it happened,” Friedman said, according to a transcript published by Blabbermouth.

Regarding his participation in the Megadeth show at Wacken (a festival held in Germany), Friedman stated that it was a coincidence.

“It was more of a coincidence, because Megadeth was playing there and I was playing there – I forget who played first, [se eu toquei] the day before or the day after – but we were both in the same place and [dissemos]: ‘Let’s do it again’. And it was exciting too.

I’m the biggest fan of these guys and whenever they ask me to play, I’m happy to do so. I wish them all the best. And I wish them all the best with the lineup they have now and I’m happy to see them killing it.”

Finally, Marty stated that he was not approached as a possible replacement for Kiko Loureiro, who left the quartet in the second half of 2023, for family reasons.

“No, and I don’t think that’s realistic. I don’t know anything about that [a possibilidade de ser cotado como um substituto de Kiko]. I don’t think Dave would think I would be a candidate to join the band, or come back to the band, and it’s certainly not something I’ve thought about. I think they are doing very well the way they are,” he concluded.

One of the members of the renowned classic Megadeth lineup, Friedman recorded the albums “Rust In Peace” (1990), “Countdown To Extinction” (1992), “Youthanasia” (1994), “Cryptic Writings” (1997) and “Risk” (1999), in addition to the EP “Hidden Treasures” (1995).
