Anchor for SBT Brasil, the station’s main news program, Cesar Filho caused controversy when he linked, in a social media post this Monday (6), the show given by Madonna in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) over the weekend and the tragedies in Rio Grande do Sul, a state hit by heavy rains since last week. The publication by the SBT journalist divided opinions on the web.

“Let’s pray and help Rio Grande do Sul. What’s your opinion about Madonna’s show in Rio de Janeiro? A blessed week for all of us!”, says the caption of the post shared by Cesar Filho on Instagram. The original post is attributed to Marcos Freire, with art by Arlison Souzza. In the image, Madonna appears with the Brazilian flag and Christ the Redeemer in the background, while people around her suffer in a flood.

The most liked comment, from journalist Felipeh Campos, said: “A free show where minors had access to the sexualized spectacle through the immoral maneuvers of Madonna and her supporters caused me sadness and distress. While the media figure jumped on stage, I thought about the lives taken by the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul”.

“Until the last second I believed that a QR CODE would be projected on the screen so that thousands of people could make their donations, but that didn’t happen!!! The sad feeling I got was: let the people drown and we will continue here enjoying the cruelest spectacle in Brazil! Sad reality”, concludes Felipeh’s message.

The second most liked comment had another point of view: “The show was paid for by Itaú and Heineken, the city earned millions in return. Madonna is a global star. The show is for adults. Regarding the tragedy announced in RS, just research that the state’s deputies and senators did not introduce amendments for floods. Only three deputies did their part. The governor was negligent. The show has nothing to do with the tragedy. Each thing in its place”.
