Singer Madonna promoted a mega show last Saturday (6), when she performed in front of 1.6 million people in Rio de Janeiro. This Monday, the website Em Off revealed that part of the North American’s fee was destined for Rio Grande do Sul, which is in a very serious state of destruction as a result of the heavy rains that hit the region last week.
Singer Madonna’s megashow triggered several discussions on social media. This occurred because, while the North American was promoting an unseasonal carnival in Rio de Janeiro, in the south of the country, specifically in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the worst climate catastrophe ever recorded was occurring.
Many internet users discussed the sponsorship of the free event. It is worth highlighting that the show received R$20 million in funding from the municipal and state government of Rio de Janeiro. The remainder of the amount that completes the R$60 million spent was paid by the private sector.
Furthermore, the Rio government and city hall justified the contribution due to the economic movement that the show would promote for the region. The financial return was estimated at more than R$300 million for Rio de Janeiro.
Despite this, Madonna was the target of criticism along with the state government of Rio, under the command of Cláudio Castro. However, according to the website Em Off, the singer allocated R$10 million of her fee to the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The donation was made privately, without her assuming or disclosing the authorship.
