Madonna’s show is causing people to talk, having even entered into political discussion. But this polarized discussion is meaningless, after all the show had already been scheduled for months and, unfortunately, it happened to be on the same weekend as a tragedy in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Held on May 4th, it ended “The Celebration Tour” with a free event in Copacabana. But was it worth the investment in this Madonna show, which in total was close to R$60 million?

To answer this we need to analyze the facts. Part of this amount was paid by the state and municipal governments of Rio, which said they disbursed R$20 million – the rest was financed by private sponsors. Madonna’s fee alone was R$17 million, while the transportation of the equipment cost R$20 million.

The Copacabana Palace alone must have earned a few million from guest Madonna, after all, the daily rates for the hotel’s presidential suites, with views of the sea, are around R$20,000. But Madonna didn’t just reserve one room, but the entire floor to have more privacy and access control. In total, the pop singer’s entourage occupied 90 rooms at the hotel, which is located in the south of Rio de Janeiro.

Now it’s up to you to say whether the R$60 million invested in the show was worth it.
