Alternative rock icon Steve Albini has died at age 61 of a heart attack, according to the website Pitchfork. The information was confirmed by a member of Albini’s studio, Electronic Audio, this Wednesday (8).

He became one of the most relevant figures in the genre as a producer and as vocalist and guitarist for the groups Shellac and Big Black. In production, he worked on landmark albums such as “In Utero”, by Nirvana, “Surfer Rosa”, by Pixies, and “Rid of me”, by PJ Harvey.

In Chicago, in the United States, he maintained his recording studio, called Electrical Audio. In 2008, he welcomed g1 there in a conversation about alternative rock and about shows he would do in Brazil with Shellac.

In the studio, he produced important albums such as “The Weirdness”, the first release in 30 years by the Stooges, a band led by Iggy Pop.

On the 17th, he would release his first album since 2014, “Touch and go”, with Shellac.
