Tommy Viator, a drummer who was part of the bands Disincarnate, Acid Bath and Shrüm, among other projects, has passed away at the age of 55. Tommy’s death was confirmed by guitarist James Murphy, founder of Disincarnate, who also played with Death, Obituary and Testament throughout his career.
“Rest in peace, Tommy Viator, drummer of Disincarnate, pictured here on the left in 1993. I have no idea what happened, I just know he’s gone.
Tommy was a fundamental element to the band’s sound, with his own drumming style… he helped make the album ‘Dreams Of The Carrion Kind’ heavy as hell, without a single blast beat, at least not like that technique is. known today. He was wearing my jacket in this photo, I don’t remember exactly why.

We spoke in early April, and he seemed to be in good spirits and had some positive musical activities and plans with local musicians near his home in Louisiana. I’m glad we talked and that I told him I appreciated him at the end of the conversation. I would have said a lot more if I had known, but you never know,” wrote James Murphy on his Facebook profile.
