CP will have a new train drivers strike from April 1 to 30

Drivers consider that “neither the guardianship nor the CP” made “any diligence to resolve the ongoing labor conflict”

The Machinists Union (SMAQ) announced, this Thursday, that the workers whose categories are represented by the SMAQ will be on strike from the 1st to the 30th of April.

“The train drivers have no choice but to continue the fight”, reads the statement.

In addition to the overtime work strike, the drivers will also, between April 16 and April 22, carry out all overtime work, including work on a weekly rest day.

The drivers consider that “neither the guardianship nor the CP” made “any diligence to resolve the ongoing labor conflict”, “in an autistic attitude and disregard for workers and the difficulties that they and their families are going through in these times of galloping inflation “.

Read the terms for the train drivers’ strike below:

• Between 00:00 on the 1st of April 2023 and 24:00 on the 30th of April 2023, workers with the Machinist or Technical Machinist categories are on strike to perform work at all normal daily work periods that have the expected duration of more than 7:30 am.
• Between 00:00 on the 1st of April 2023 and 24:00 on the 30th of April 2023, workers with the Machinist or Technical Machinist categories are on strike to perform work at all normal daily work periods that imply and/or departures at headquarters between 00:30 and 06:00.
• Between 00:00 on the 17th of April 2023 and 24:00 on the 21st of April 2023, workers with the Traction Inspector or Chief Traction Inspector categories are on strike at all normal work periods that have a longer expected duration to 6 hours.
• Workers in the categories represented by SMAQ, between 00:00 on April 1, 2023 and 24:00 on April 30, 2023 are on strike for the entire period of service whenever they are assigned a normal daily work period whose working hours are not included in the scales in force at the start of the strike.
• Between 00:00 on the 1st of April 2023 and 24:00 on the 30th of April 2023, workers with the Machinist or Technical Machinist categories are on strike for all periods of service whose content violates the Company agreement CP/ SMAQ 2022.
• Between 00:00 on the 1st of April 2023 and 24:00 on the 30th of April 2023, workers in the categories represented by the SMAQ are on strike for the provision of work whenever their period of service provides for a rest away from the headquarters and provided that the time elapsed between the beginning of the PNTD at headquarters and the end of the PNTD after resting away from headquarters exceeds 30 hours.
• Between the 16th of April and the 22nd of April, workers in the categories represented by the SMAQ are on strike for all overtime work, including work on weekly rest days.
