No clinical case was identified among military personnel and civilian workers and the use of the swimming pool at the Headquarters in Lisbon was suspended, with no impact expected on the academic activities of the Military Academy.

The Army reported this Thursday that the bacteria had been detected Legionella in the sanitary facilities of the Military Academy.

“Following periodic analyses, within the scope of the Technical Authority Standard for the Prevention and Control of Legionellawhich establishes the procedures to be implemented in the prevention and proliferation of bacteria of the type Legionella in equipment and water and air systems, the presence of bacteria of the genus Legionella in the sanitary facilities of the Military Academy. The results of the analyzes carried out ensure that the presence of the Legionella Pneumophila, says the Army in a statement sent to newsrooms.

The Army adds that “immediately, a thermal and chemical shock was carried out on the aforementioned installations, and a Team from the Military Veterinary Medical Unit, from the Health Directorate, was activated in order to evaluate water circuits and investigate possible causes. The analyzes will be repeated after the implementation of the ongoing measures.”
