“I am here very focused on changing the region, while there are others only interested in changing the direction of the party”

The Socialist Party’s political commission takes place this morning at its headquarters, on Rua da Alfândega, in Funchal.

In statements made to journalists, Paulo Cafôfo said he believes that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will call early elections in the Region and hence also this commission, stressing Paulo Cafôfo that the party must be strong and prepared for such a scenario.

“This is an important moment for us to define the life of the Region. We will have to take action here and we will have to act even if this action is complemented by reflection. Madeiran voters elected a new government of Portugal and we will have regional elections to elect the government of Madeira. What the Socialist Party has to do is understand people, know how to listen to the people and point the way and the only party that can point the way is the Socialist Party”, stressed the regional leader who recalled the internal crisis in the PSD-M, “a party exhausted in ideas”, he highlighted, adding that Chega’s “thirst for power” is also great.

Regarding the “Autonomia 24” group, a composition of protesting elements from the PS, Cafôfo was clear.

“I am here very focused on changing the region, while there are other activists interested in changing only the direction of the party. We recently had internal elections and I was elected with almost 99% of the votes”, stated the PS-M leader, who believes that it is not worth talking too much about internal issues that only “benefit the opponent”, remembering that these people did not stand for elections when they could have done so.
