Around 21 thousand teachers are already placed in the 63 Pedagogical Zone Tables (QZP) that resulted from the geographical disaggregation of the ten that previously existed. The final lists for the transition competition were published this Friday.

This competition resulted from the new teacher recruitment regime, approved last May, which resized the geographical areas of these staff. In an informative note published in your sitethe General Directorate of School Administration (DGAE) highlights that 21,255 teachers transferred, leaving “2,930 vacancies to be filled as a result of all the candidates considered for the expected allocations not being presented to the competition”.

The DGAE specifies that 24,191 vacancies were put up for competition that “corresponded to the number of teachers linked to the ten extinct QZP”. This accounting does not include the approximately 6,000 teachers who joined the staff this academic year through the so-called “dynamic attachment”. For these there will be another competition in which all 63 QZPs now established will be required.

When the provisional lists for the transition competition were released in February, PÚBLICO had already realized that there were more vacancies than candidates, a situation that the Ministry of Education then indicated was not “new, nor unprecedented”, adding that “all situations will be duly resolved as they arise”.

The competition opening notice states that teachers who do not apply “will be sorted and placed in ascending order of the QZP code constituted within the geographical limits” of the framework to which they are linked.

In its informative note, the DGAE attributes the difference between vacancies and placements to “departures due to retirement and simple individual carelessness” and also to “the omission of applications from teachers who are performing other duties, namely under unpaid leave of absence. long term, mobility in other areas of public administration, public interest transfer agreements, service commissions or similar situations.” The lack of teachers on staff is generally made up for using contracted teachers.

As for those placed, the DGAE reports that “85.4% of teachers obtained a placement in the new QZP that they indicated in their first preference”. It should be noted, by the way, that in this competition teachers could only apply to the region where they were already located and not to the one closest to their residence. More specifically, they could only express “preferences for all QZPs constituted within the geographical limits” of the framework to which they are linked.

In a statement released this Friday, the Ministry of Education highlights that the transition to the new staff “now allows teachers to reduce their internal travel within the QZP where they are placed to a maximum of 50 kilometres”, when previously they could reach the 200. The ME reminds, on the other hand, that all these teachers will be able to compete, later this year, “for the 20,853 School Staff vacancies open and announced this week, stabilizing their placement in a specific school”.

Until now, when teachers joined the workforce, they were initially assigned to a region, the QZP, and could be placed in any of the schools in that area.
