Rain and snow are back with falling temperatures

Temperatures will drop and rain and snow are back. After a few days of sunshine and temperatures above average for the month of April, the weather will change.

“Will have worsening from the afternoon of [sexta-feira]especially in the northern regions, with rainy periodssometimes moderate, and the cooling temperaturesboth the minimum and the maximum”, says climatologist Mário Marques.

At dawn and on Saturday morning, the minimum temperature drops even further, “which could favor the occurrence of snow”warn.

O Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warning for eight districts due to the possibility of Snow fall. The alert is in effect between Friday and Saturday.

Above all Vila Real, Porto, Braga, Bragança and Viseu “may see snow”says Mário Marques.

Snowing in April “is not very common”, acknowledges the climatologist, “but it can happen”. “In the past, it happened even more frequently”, he notes.

Sun and heat return in May

Although temperatures remain low on Sunday, the weather is expected to improve, but next Tuesday, the rain will return.

“On the 29th, Monday, temperatures rise and it is a sunny day”predicts Mário Marques, but, he warns, it is just “a day of transition”.

“30th [terça-feira]we will have the entry of a new depression, associated with a cold front, which could produce heavy showers, especially in the North region, and also some showers in the Algarve region”advance.
