“Through active operations, units of the Central Force Group liberated the village of Novobakhmutivka,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said today in its daily report.

Novobakhmutivka is northwest of the town of Ocherytne, which was also invaded by Russian forces.

The commander-in-chief of Ukrainian forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, admitted this month that the situation on the eastern front had “significantly deteriorated”.

On Monday, the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, argued that the situation will worsen between May and June, which he classified as a “difficult period” for Ukraine.

Last week, the situation worsened following the sudden advance of the Russian army towards the village of Ocheretine, a strategic high point northwest of Avdivka, in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk, and the capture of several villages.

Furthermore, they continue to advance towards Chasiv Yar, whose eventual capture would allow the Russian army to threaten the Ukrainian fortresses of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, essential for control of the Donetsk region.
