The Eat This, Not That website spoke to Chrissy Arsenault, dietitian at Trainer Academy, who revealed some of the things that can happen if you adopt this habit.

When you train on an empty stomach, your bloodstream is often low in glucose., so the muscles are forced to use other macronutrients as an energy source. You may experience lower performance levels due to lower blood glucose levels,” he explains.

“If you train to gain strength or muscle, training on an empty stomach will not be a good idea because you may experience early fatigue, decreased endurance and run the risk of increasing protein breakdown in your muscles,” he continues.

It is recommended to have a light meal or snack at least one hour before starting to exercise.
