In the statement from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, released over the weekend, it can be read that, “with regard to the issue of reparation to these States and their people for the colonial past of the Portuguese State, it is important to emphasize that the current Government is guided by along the same lines as previous Governments”, as well as “no specific process or program of actions with this purpose has ever been and is not in question”.

Paulo Rangel, in Brussels, also said that the Government respects the opinions of civil society, parties and other holders of sovereign bodies.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also reinforced that the Government’s position is in line with the position of previous Governments.

The head of the PS list for the European elections, Marta Temido, also admits the sensitivity of the topic and, therefore, expresses that it should not be discussed lightly, in a clear allusion to the statements made by the President of the Republic.

“An observation” by Marta Temido on the sidelines of the delivery of the PS list to the European Parliament, at the Constitutional Court.
