The president of Chega, André Ventura, considered this Monday that the head of his party’s list for the European elections, António Tânger Corrêa, will be “the only adult in the room” and criticized the candidates from the PS and the Democratic Alliance (AD) .
“We have a head of the list who has been vice-president of Chega for many years, a recognized name in society, with experience. In fact, I would venture to say that he will be the only adult in the room at these European elections, as others are far away of this and presented candidacies that were honest or caricatured or not very credible”, he stated.
The leader of Chega spoke to journalists before the delivery of the party’s list of candidates for the European elections on June 9 at the Constitutional Court, in Lisbon. André Ventura indicated that the candidates were chosen by him and said he expected “a great victory” from his party.
As for the head of the AD list, Sebastião Bugalho, he considered it “not very credible” and the first PS candidate, Marta Temido, said it was “disrespect towards the Portuguese”, which “couldn’t be worse”.
André Ventura also defended that these European elections “will not be a second round of the legislative elections, as Montenegro intended, but will be a clarification of what happened on March 10th”.
Chega’s list leader, Tânger Corrêa, assured that the party “takes European issues very seriously because it is in Europe that the major issues and the future of Europe are dealt with”.
“This next mandate is an extremely important mandate, there are several agendas on the table”, he highlighted, lamenting that the majority of citizens do not have “the slightest idea of what is happening in Brussels” and guaranteeing that the party will try to reverse this situation.
In the opinion of the Chega candidate and leader, the European Union should continue to support Ukraine militarily but warned of Europe’s disinvestment in military material.
