Five days before André Villas-Boas took office as the new president of FC Porto, Pinto da Costa received at the club’s museum what he defined as the cup for the “last championship” won in 42 years at the helm of the Dragons, relating to the title national women’s volleyball championship, won in the final against Colégio Efanor.

“For me, it was a huge joy that it was in this volleyball family that FC Porto won the last championship with me as president”, said the director, at the ceremony that took place this Thursday.

“Many congratulations to everyone. You achieved a fantastic victory […] I want to say to Rodrigo Barros, who was my management representative within the group, and to Mr. Miguel Coelho that it was a great pleasure to see, from the day I met him, the interest and passion he put into this project. To you, champions, I can just say that yesterday you gave me enormous joy and that you will forever remain in my heart,” he added.

The trophy won by the volleyball team may, however, not have been the last of Pinto da Costa’s presidency, as the basketball team, coached by Fernando Sá, is still competing, in the coming days, for the Hugo dos Santos Cup, the equivalent of the sport to the League Cup, after having already won the Portuguese Cup a few weeks ago.

FC Porto will start playing against Ovarense on Friday and, if they win, they will face Oliveirense in the semi-finals, on Saturday. If they reach the final, their opponents could be Benfica, Imortal or Sporting, on Sunday.
