The presence of bacteria called Porphyromonas gingivalis is one of the strongest evidences among patients with the disease.
A dentist has revealed how a patient’s oral health can indicate when Alzheimer’s disease may begin to manifest itself. As the TheMirror and the doctor says, “some initial signs of a patient with Alzheimer’s are an unkempt mouth.”
According to Dr. Smita, a doctor at a practice in the United Kingdom, a mouth with plaque, swollen, bleeding gums, or cavities are indicators of neglect and poor dental health.
People suffering from dementia tend to neglect oral health care more frequently and this is considered one of the main factors that warn of an early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
“It is obvious to us dentists when the patient complains of pain when touching or blowing air on the teeth”, says Smita.
