APCVD opens investigation after incidents in the final of the Hugo dos Santos Cup – Basketball

Benfica players were allegedly the target of racist attitudes by FC Porto fans

The Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) will open an investigation to investigate the events that took place during the Hugo dos Santos Cup final, in Gondomar, between Benfica and FC Porto. The Reds reacted to alleged racist insults made by Dragons fans, who were placed right behind the Red team’s bench, in a situation that led to the interruption of the match during the 3rd quarter.

“In view of the news published in the media regarding incidents that occurred during the game between Futebol Clube do Porto and Sport Lisboa e Benfica, held at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Gondomar, counting for the final phase of the Hugo dos Santos Cup, in Basketball, a competition organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation, the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sports (APCVD) opened an administrative offense process to determine the facts”, the statement read.
