The searches cover Porto, Gaia and municipalities in the metropolitan area.
The alleged leader of the network targeted by investigators, known as Joca, resident in Vila Nova de Gaia, was arrested in this operation.
Joca, the main suspect, is a former PSP agent and cousin of Bruno Pidá, convicted in the Noite Branca case, related to homicides on the night in Porto.
The alleged number two of this drug trafficking network was also arrested during this morning’s searches in the city of Porto.
The network in question imported large quantities of cocaine from South America, which was distributed in the northern region of the country. Authorities believe it will be one of the main networks operating in Portugal.
The investigations involve 70 inspectors and are being monitored by a judge.
