Sporting became national champions, for the 20th time, last Sunday. Sitting ‘on the couch’, as they had played the day before, and beaten Portimonense (3-0), the squad saw Benfica lose in the trip to Famalicão (0-2). With the final whistle of this match, those led by Rúben Amorim were finally able to celebrate the much-desired title, with only two rounds remaining until the end of the championship.

And with the title won, there are also calculations to be made, namely the prizes that each player is entitled to receive for winning another championship. And as I heard the SAPO24 from a source close to the green and white footballers, the total pie for the working group could guarantee, on average, 70 thousand euros for each one.

This is the average, and everything also depends on the games played by each player, as there is usually always an agreed base value, and then there is a bonus for the total number of games played in the competition.

And, it must be said, there may still be the possibility of others making their debut in these last two rounds and being able to also receive the national champion’s medal and a slice of the cake that Frederico Varandas, president of Sporting, negotiated with the working group.

For example, Quenda, Rafael Nel, Tiago Ferreira, Chico Lamba, João Muniz, Diogo Travassos, Diogo Pinto and Francisco Silva are players who normally work with the main squad and could see their efforts rewarded in these last two rounds. Diogo Pinto, goalkeeper, for example, has a golden opportunity to play against Estoril, this weekend, given the injuries to Adán and Franco Israel, Rúben Amorim’s usual picks.

So far, the coach of the green and whites has used a total of 26 players in the national championship.

Those who are also entitled to a prize for winning the most desired title in Portugal will be Rúben Amorim and his technical team. This amount is, naturally, apart from the budget allocated to the green and white squad.

And there are even more euros to receive. Or rather, another prize that could fatten the players’ bank account. On May 26th, the lions will face another duel with FC Porto, this time in the final of the Taça de Portugal, which will be played at the Estádio Nacional, in Jamor. A possible new achievement will guarantee another prize for each footballer. This, however, will be far inferior to the victory in the national championship.

It is also important to highlight that these accounts do not even include the amounts contained in the contractual clauses that some players have included, as there are many athletes who usually have agreements based on objectives.

It should be noted that by winning the title, Sporting also guarantees direct qualification for the Champions League and consequently a monetary prize, which will never be less than 30 million euros. On average, in recent years, Portuguese clubs have received between 40 and 50 million euros for their presence in the millionaire league.
