There were more than 70 attacks between missiles and drones that targeted the country’s energy infrastructure

A “massive” attack like we hadn’t seen in weeks. Russia has once again hit Ukraine hard, targeting energy infrastructure, one of Moscow’s favorite objectives.

In total, 76 projectiles were launched from Russia or Russian-controlled Ukrainian areas, including 55 missiles and 21 drones, according to the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.

An attack that occurred, above all, during the night and early morning, with Ukrainian forces managing to destroy 59 of the projectiles launched.

Among the countless targets were power plants or transmission infrastructures in cities as diverse as Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk or Vinnytsia, confirmed Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

“The enemy wants to deprive us of the ability to generate and transmit electricity in sufficient quantities. Saving electricity is each of us’ contribution to victory,” he added.

To give you an idea of the geographical dimension of the attack, Lviv and Zaporizhzhia are almost on opposite sides of Ukraine. Separating the two cities are around a thousand kilometers, the first being in one of the Ukrainian areas closest to the European Union, while the second is in one of the four Ukrainian regions that Russia illegally annexed.

Following this attack, at least three people were injured, including a woman and a man who were taken to a Kiev hospital with serious wounds to their arms and legs. An eight-year-old child also had to be hospitalized in Kirovohrad.

This attack is yet another in the Russian attempt to paralyze the Ukrainian energy system, at a time when Kiev orders its troops to remain firm on the eastern front lines.

A resistance that is required until, at least, the United States Congress sends more than 60 billion dollars (around 56 billion euros) in military aid to Kive.

Among Russia’s most attacked targets are DTEK plants, the company that manages the Ukrainian energy grid, which saw three thermoelectric plants damaged, in what was the fifth attack on its plants in the space of a month and a half.

Two infrastructures were also attacked in Lviv. They are, according to military information provided to CNN, critical infrastructure.

Despite the scale of the attack, the Ukrainian president assured that “all necessary services are working to mitigate the consequences of Russian terror”.

“Everyone must understand who is who. The world should not give Nazism another chance”, added Volodymyr Zelensky in a post on the social network X.
