Joe Barone, general director of Fiorentina who had suffered a heart attack in Bergamo, on Sunday, hours before the game with Atalanta, which ended up being postponed. According to the Italian press, the leader of the viola emblem could not resist the injuries and lost his life in the hospital, while he was accompanied by his wife and children. Barone, 57 years old – he would turn 58 tomorrow, Wednesday – was one of the most important figures among Fiorentina’s senior management and a personal friend of Rocco Commisso, the club’s president. He had held the role of general director since November 2019.
“With deep pain and immense sadness, Fiorentina today loses one of its points of reference, a figure who marked the club’s recent history and who will never be forgotten. General director Giuseppe Barone, following what happened on Sunday, died today at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan”, can be read in an official statement from the team.
