Xavi explained why he decided to stay at Barcelona rather than leave the club at the end of the season.
“I’m a Barça man. I’m a club man and the most important thing is to think about the club. We met with the president, just yesterday I made the position available to him. But I feel the confidence of the president, of Deco, of the entire management… The players’ support was very important. They made me realize that I have to continue. I believe that this project is not finished, even though we might not win titles this season. Above all, I see that I have the ability to do it. Yesterday we sat down and understood each other in three minutes”, he said.
“I’m a man of consensus and of the club. I get along very well with Deco and the president. We will always look at the good of Barcelona. I didn’t set any conditions. If they said I would receive it, it was to harm me. If I didn’t continued, I wouldn’t receive a single euro. The president knows that. The money from my contract was for the next coach”, he continued.
“The players already know: I think we had the best training session of the season. The president came here, he excited us all. I felt everyone’s confidence, this is like a movie”, he added, before addressing the decision-making process.
“I think it was the right decision because we needed a change of direction at that time, but it’s true that now I feel the opposite and I have the strength and energy to move forward. Circumstances have changed.”
