Player was also hit with an electric stun gun twice

Billy Vunipola, English rugby international, was arrested this weekend for causing disorder in a bar in Mallorca. According to the Spanish press, the 31-year-old player took off his shirt and threatened employees and customers with chairs and bottles, before the police were called to the scene.

There, Vunipola allegedly attacked one of the security agents, before they used an electric shock gun on the player twice and detained him. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, in the city of Palma.

Billy Vunipola was with the England team at the 2023 World Cup, where they lost in the semi-final to South Africa (IMAGO)

The 61-time England rugby international weighs 120 kg and therefore, according to different reports, it took eight police officers to stop him.

Vunipola, whose parents are from Australia and Tonga, plays for Saracens and the club has already reacted to the incident: “We will deal with this internally and not comment further on the situation.”

A source from the Mallorca Police, cited by DailyMail, he detailed: «The police tried all the time to get the man to calm down, but he wouldn’t listen to reason. At that moment, he pushed and slapped an officer and a police officer took out his electric stun gun and fired the first time, although the gun did not go off. The weapon was used a second time, which immobilized the man.”

Vunipola was taken to court this Sunday and was released on bail, while an investigation into the case is still ongoing.
