Portuguese cyclist Rui Oliveira will participate in the Tour of Italy, which starts on Saturday, UAE Emirates confirmed this Tuesday, which will be led by Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, a great candidate for the final triumph.

This will be the fifth grand tour for Rui Oliveira, who had already been to the Giro in 2022, the year in which he finished 141st, in addition to three appearances in the Tour of Spain, in which he has 74th place in 2021 as his best result .

In addition to supporting Pogacar, the Portuguese should have the main objective of helping Colombian Sebastian Molano in the few opportunities to finish the sprint in the 107th edition of the Giro.

In his debut on the ‘Corsa Rosa’, Pogacar, two-time winner of the Tour de France, appears as the main candidate for the final triumph, in a season in which he will try to do the Giro-Tour ‘double’.

“It’s a race I’ve dreamed of doing for a long time and I feel like this is the right time to do it. […] Of course my goal is the general classification, we also have Molano for the sprints and a very solid team. We can’t wait for it to start”, said Pogacar.

The Danish Mikkel Bjerg, the Norwegian Vegard Stake Laengen, the Austrian Felix Grossschartner, the Polish Rafal Majka and the Slovenian Domen Novak complete the team that will compete in the 107th edition of the Giro, which will take place between Saturday and May 26th, in a total of 3,400.8 kilometers, from the Piedmont region to Rome.
