André Silva’s career has not been easy in terms of injuries. Currently 28 years old, the Portuguese international is, on loan from RB Leipzig, at Real Sociedad, a club that has the option to purchase his pass and where he began playing with another type of regularity in February.

Decisions regarding his future are in place, he assured in an interview with the daily TO THEreserved for the end of the season, when the objectives in Reale are finished.

«I’ve been in a good phase for some time now. I have never felt so good and so strong. I had an injury at the beginning of the season and then a small relapse. But after that I felt better every day. Of course, it’s different to start the season with an injury, without being able to do pre-season with the team, especially when you arrive for the first time. What most complicated my performance was the lack of continuity and opportunities. (…) I’m on loan from Real Sociedad and there is an option to stay. If it is not executed, I will return to Leipzig”, explained André Silva.

Now, if this happens, the selection door could open again, as was always the wish of André Silva, a player who refused Saudi Arabia to remain “close” to the national team.

«My agent talked about this possibility last year, but I didn’t want to hear anything because I wanted to be in Europe, close to the national team. I feel stronger and more capable than ever. I could bring things to the national team, but it’s a huge group of very talented players. My focus is on showing that I can be there, although the most important thing is to have opportunities at home first. (…) Portugal is not in the top 3 in the world, but I believe that people look at us in a different way, compared to 20 years ago», he recalled.

Still on the selection, André Silva did not fail to praise the growth of the team now coached by Roberto Martínez, largely due to Cristiano Ronaldo, who continues to be one of the team’s figures.

«A player like Cristiano will always leave something for history and you will always notice his strength and what he created. We are what we are thanks to what Cristiano did. My growth was influenced by him. We are inspired by him. The future will be different because of the strength he has, but I hope it will be good too,” he said.
