It was something that had been predicted in recent weeks and, on the last day, everything came together to make it happen naturally and without scares: Ipswich Town will return to the Premier League next season!
Out of the top tier of English football since 2001/02, Ipswich Town achieved this promotion after, last season, managing to move up from League One to this Championship, making this season even more epic.
The historic English club, which has an English League and a UEFA Cup in its history, finished the Championship in second place, behind champions Leicester, with 96 points won and six points ahead of Leeds United.
This advantage required a combination of results: Ipswich only depended on themselves and did their part, beating Huddersfield Town 2-0. Leeds, who needed a miracle, lost (1-2) at home to Southampton and are in the play-offs.
Speaking of the play-offs… it’s already been decided. Leeds (3rd) will face Norwich (6th) and Southampton (4th) will play West Bromwich (5th). The winner of the final goes on to join Leicester and Ipswich in the Premier League.
